May 209 AC
One Sunday morning, early in May, Trinity Chang walked into her kitchen with two fistfuls of wildflowers. One handful she presented to her father, Wufei—who was trying to cajole an 18-month old fussy toddler to eat her fruit loops—and the other she present to her other father, Duo—who was irritably rubbing his very swollen tummy.
"What’s this for, Trini-baby?’ duo asked as he accepted the flowers.
"Daddy said next week is Mother’s Day and you might not be back from the hospital by then so I decided to give you your presents now," the dark-haired child replied, crawling up into Heero’s lap and stealing a piece of bacon from his plate.
" ‘Mother’s Day’?" Wufei asked, amused even more by the bemused expression on his Japanese husband’s face.
Again the child nodded. "Kit told Adrian the he needed to do something special for Auntie Luce because Mother’s day is coming up, but I didn’t have to because I don’t have a mother like they do. I asked Aunt Marie and she said I was special because my mommy wasn’t really a mommy like everybody else’s mommy. My mommy was a daddy, too, and that mommies are just people who have babies and take care of them till they’re grown and that if I wanted to I could give Wu-daddy and Duo-daddy something special for Mother’s Day since they’re sorta like a mommy. But Daddy said Mother’s Day is next week and I wanted to make sure you had something nice so I’m giving you your present now instead of next week."
Thus ending her rather lengthy explanation, Trinity popped another piece of bacon into her mouth and munched on it happily until she was converged upon with lots of hugs and kisses from all three of her daddies.
