Fall Traditions by Andrea Readwolf

Part Twelve: Fall Festival

Aim, Cock, Pitch, Knock out the target.

"You've got good aim, son," the man at the booth said, swiping a cloth across his sweating forehead.

"It's all in the eye-hand coordination," Tristan answered, grinning. "Which one you want, Mara J?"

The dark haired girl looked away from her sticky sugar cloud of cotton candy to glare at him. "I don't want anything from you," she answered

"Elephant! Elephant!" shouted the four-year-old blonde at their heels.

"Nicole, didn't you want to stay with Adrian?" Dylan asked, playfully twirling the excited child.

The four-year-old frowned and latched onto his leg suddenly. "NO! Stay wid Dylan!"

Leaning against the booth, Calista laughed. "Your first adoring fan," she said, winking at her friend before snatching up the ball from her brother's hand and firing at the moving target without the fancy prep her brother played. "Which elephant, Nicole? The purple or the pink?"

"No!" the child tucker her face out from Dylan's leg long enough to spy the row of colorful plushies. "Blue."

Trinity and Adrian had went off on their own not even five minutes after her father had dropped them all off at the festival. That left the rest of them-minus Triton who was home sick-to their own cunning. Under normal situations, leadership would have fallen to the oldest member of the group, that being Tristan. However, with neither Mara Jade nor his sister willing to follow his dictations, the blond boy was sadly out of authority.

"Let's head over to the Epetron," Dylan suggested, snagging a nacho chip smothered in processed cheese from Calista's bowl.

"Uh, No~o," the blonde replied, moving her nachos away from theft's harm. "Let's not and said we did." "We haven't looked at the presentation booths, yet," Mara Jade suggested.

"Yeah, and there's a *reason*," Tristan shot back.

"What's wrong with the Epetron?"

"It's stupid, that's what."

"What's wrong with the presentations?"

"They're *school* work-that's what! We're here to have *fun*. Remember what that is?"

"The Epetron *IS* fun!"

"It makes me sick!"

"*Excuse* *me* for wanting to LEARN something!"

"You're excused!"

IN the end, the group settled on some bumper-cars, tilt-a-whirl, and the log run before heading over to the arts and crafts stands.

"Did you have a good time?" Heero asked when he arrived to pick them up.

Mumbled answers-mostly sounding like affirmative responses, though he couldn't be sure-greeted him as the door slammed shut.
